Intrahospital transport av kritiskt sjuka patienter - DiVA

Aims and objectives Although these patients do not require the triggering function, it is important to control airway pressure by titrating positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) to open the collapsed lung and by limiting peak alveolar pressure to avoid overstretching the lung. 2 3 Until several years ago, owing to the inadequate performance of transport ventilators, manual ventilation often has been the most practical means of ventilating these critically ill patients during transport. Even the most 6.3 Intrahospital transport refers to: Transport of critically ill patients from one area of a hospital to another area within the hospital. 7.

An audit of 97 intrahospital transports of critically ill patients was undertaken within Westmead Hospital. The aims of this audit were to assess all factors that may lead to problems during intrahospital transports. There are many potential risks associated with transporting the critically ill patient, including their greater susceptibility to the physiological changes associated with the change in environment, changes in equipment such as ventilators and pumps, downgrading the intensity of care, the absence of backup supplies and staff and failure to identify or predict continued deterioration in the patient’s condition. In this study, we found that although intrahospital transport could be performed with adequate safety by means of either manual or mechanical ventilation, the use of a transport ventilator with a patient-triggering function was able to provide more consistent ventilation. Intrahospital transport (IHT) is an important part of service delivery, providing the ability to move critically ill or injured patients to other areas of the hospital for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Several studies have shown that IHT is a potential risk for patients (de Almeida et al., 2012;Parmentier-Decrucq et al., 2013). Intrahospital Transport (Warren et al., 2004) The transport of critically ill patients outside of the ICU to other areas of a hospital should be organized and efficient and is ideally performed by specially trained staff.

Intrahospital transport (IHT) is an important part of service delivery, providing the ability to move critically ill or injured patients to other areas of the hospital for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. INTRAHOSPITAL TRANSPORT Because the transport of critically ill patients to procedures or tests outside the intensive care unit is potentially hazardous, the transport process must be organized and efficient. INTRAHOSPITAL TRANSPORT OF CRITICALLY ILL PATIENTS Shekhar T. Venkataraman, MD, and Richard A Orr, MD Tremendous advances have been made in the past century in the caie of the critically ill patient.21 Critically ill patients often need to be moved from one location to another within the hospital for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

This study confirms that the intrahospital transports of critically ill patients leads to a significant number of adverse events. Although in our study adverse events have not had major consequences on the patient stay, efforts should be made to decrease their incidence.
